Mr Roberts finds himself awoken inexplicably in a white room. A man sits before him at a desk and in between them stands a black button. If Mr Roberts pushes it, he will receive a briefcase filled with millions of dollars. Or he can take the key to the door and leave penniless. The catch? Pushing
the button will result in the death of a human being. What would you do? EDIT 1: Some people have observed a similarity in the premise of this film and an revival episode of The Twilight Zone in 1986. Please note (1) We had never seen the episode and only learned of it long after we'd finished the
film. (2) The Twilight Zone weren't the first to do it. There was a short story before that, which was in turn based on an old premise called the 'Faustian Bargain', around since the 16th century (deal with the 'devil'). An almost identical premise exists in several cultures. Richard Kelly is even m
aking a film with this premise called 'The Box'. (3) Our film is similar in premise, but different in plot, characters, dialogue, aesthetics, setting, moral meaning, religious undertone, twist etc. Each version, including ours, aims to bring something new to an old idea. Please have the respect to
not accuse us of plagiarism. Additionally, we have no particular religious affiliation; this is a fictional work and its ideas are designed to encourage thought and debate, not comment on any particular theology. Our first professional short film. We made it for $200 and shot it on the stage of o
ur old school in Melbourne, Australia. Fortunately, professional actor Robert Grubb agreed to act in it for free after reading the script. This film took nearly a year to put together, working on it in stages and creating the 'white' effect on a home PC. Please note that the younger actor, unlike hi
s father Robert Grubb, has no formal acting training whatsoever. The Making of "Black Button" is now on YouTube. Two of our other shorts have been released on YouTube, 'Campsite' and 'The Window'. Click on our profile if you'd like to see them and subscribe for updates on new films. Thanks!

thelastdragonite, that's right, I didn't cheat. Interestingly, many people were willing to kill others during the Cultural Revolution in China because they thought it was for the good of the country. And yes, some just did it for material gain. I think if the goal is to save others that is noble, but the only life you can only really choose to sacrifice in good conscience is your own. ChadAndSam, interesting point. Maybe it was a test for me all along, not one for her.

Edengoth, while I agree with you in that I don't like using fear to make people act a certain way, I do think life is amazing and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
How can you say you are not special? How can you say that every day in life is not a beautiful gift for us to enjoy? You must feel insignificant as a person because thats what you project to the world (i.e. we're "specks", not special); You're a very special person and until you realize that you
will be just a speck. Wake up.

Forgot what the name of a test was but this scientist dude asked strangers with no knowledge of what the experiment was and told them to ask someone questions and every time that person got a question wrong they had to give the person an electric shock and increase the voltage, the shocker was given the choice to leave but was encouraged to keep shocking, the experiment was repeated by many people in many places and less than 1% stopped the shocking so far, so don't kid yourself about morals.

In this type of ... ( 23 hours ago by malachiparker1985)
In this type of situation, the end never justifies the means. World peace, all disease cured, no more poverty or suffering, no racism or religious hatred, all for the price of one single life. I wonder, if the life that was taken was from a family member, would you push the button? If all those wonderful things were accomplished by simply murdering one person maybe an old man, a mother of two, or even a child, would you push the button?
In the end we are ... ( 22 hours ago by 0nly0neWay)
In the end we are all dead because all humans have committed sin. It is not just killing another human being, it is resisting and avoiding God's want for a relationship with us. We can't earn our way to salvation by not pressing the black button for we have all pressed the black button of sin on our own lives. Only Jesus Christ can erase our death, reuniting our relationship with God. It is not by works we have been saved but through faith in Jesus Christ.

Oh, I am a happy person. I live what I do have while I can. I just mean the *preservation* of human life isn't a very good goal. People are horrible no matter how good things get, and we've trashed the earth. Just the idea that life is SOOOO precious and important is folly. In many parts of the world, people don't live to see adulthood. Life, by virtue of it being life, dies. I think it's worth a lot less than 10 million.

I guess we differ on that m8. To me 10 million dollars is something of completely material value and in reality its just a bunch of paper that we all agree is worth something.
To me life is priceless. Its not so much preservation as it is having love for other people. Its having respect for them and their lives. Again this is just my opinion. To me its like trading something totally imaginary (money) for something undeniably real (life).
I really liked the ... ( 14 hours ago by lawsonbutcher)
I really liked the vid though.
Although to be honest my first interpretation was cooler than what was really meant. As in, I thought the "life" who died was his own, and he was choosing whether he'd wake up in a hospital bed or die. (Rather than heaven/hell, I'm not into Christianity) I can't stand being told how to think. I'm
gonna make up my own morals whether you like it or not. The rules of Christianity are too rigid and robotic to ever apply to such free animals like humans.

you have a good point. money is only paper. and only people with lives in the first place give it value. I just meant if we measure life by money, $10,000,000 is no contest in my opinion.

So many people here say how the would never push the button. but in reality 95% of all of us would push the button, given the choice. i know i probably would. That's just todays society for us.

Tips to help you create better videos

1. Eye Candy.
Think about some of your favorite videos, ask yourself, what interesting shots and b-roll need to be captured to make your video entertaining to watch.

2. Good Lighting.
The main difference between amateur and professional videos is the quality of the lighting. Poor lighting creates graininess and poor quality videos too. (*Hint* In most studios, the lights and the cameras can be adjusted up and down to get the correct amount of light.) For your home studio make use of fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs produce a nice soft light with no harsh shadows. You can buy fluorescent light kits or you can save a lot of money and make your own fluorescent light box. It is best to use a three point lighting system which is fairly standard in most studios.

3. Tripod.
Use a tripod for shake free shooting. Tripods come in all sizes and quality. Most camcorders used today are only small and weigh very little so there is no need to buy a tripod to suit a heavy professional video camera.

4. Microphone.
The built in microphone on your camcorder is not the best to use if you can avoid it. Buy a directional one that can be mounted on top of your camcorder. Otherwise mount the microphone on a boom or support just out of view of the camcorder but close to the subject. Another option is to use a microphone that clips onto your lapel and as used by newsreaders on television. These are very effective and can be purchased for less than $50. No need to buy a wireless unit, but you need enough cable to run from the camcorder remote microphone, up the inside of your shirt and to your lapel. Bear in mind that you will normally be seated within six feet of the camcorder so the microphone should have plenty of cable.

5. Avoid Zooming and Panning.
Avoid zooming in and out and panning from side to side as much as possible. It is recommended that you set the zoom prior to recording.

6. Pre-Roll and Post-Roll.
Allow a few extra seconds after starting and before stopping the camcorder and the actual start and finish of the action you want to record. This allows for better editing once the shooting is over. Not allowing for the pre-roll and post-roll can make editing difficult. If you are filming yourself then start the camcorder recording with the remote control, wait six seconds before you start talking and at the end let the camcorder run an extra six seconds before stopping. This will give you plenty of time when editing.

7. Remember It is A Small Screen.
When shooting videos to add to your web site, normally the player will be 320 x 240 so avoid wide scenes, keep it close to see the detail. If you are filming yourself talking, you should be within six feet of the camera and preferably from the waist up. Keep the content simple and uncomplicated, do not have much happening in the video and keep it quiet-on-the-set.

8. Think Like a Photographer.
When shooting a video, do it like a photographer taking individual shots. Plan your video shoot, record for a short while from one position then stop recording, reposition the camera or yourself then shoot again. This will reduce excessive camera movement in your video. Using these tips will ensure that you can shoot and produce quality website videos of a better quality than most people. Remember, practice makes perfect and soon you will be getting great results on the first take.

9. Look at the Details.
Sometimes, you are so focused on your subject that you do not notice the surrounding elements of the scene. Only later, when you are reviewing the footage do you notice an unsightly trash can in the background or a tree sticking out of your subjects head. I like to scan the video screen carefully before shooting to make sure there is nothing in the shot that I may have overlooked. You may be surprised what you find!

Use our search feature, at the top of the page, to find videos about your favorite topics. There are tons of videos, for example, type in "Bikini contest", "Body building", "Guitar lesson", or "How to (anything)". Search for "Commercial", you will see cool ads and funny commercials. Notice the video techniques used to capture each video, you may very well find many helpful tips and tricks to use as well as many techniques to avoid when making your own videos... have fun.
