These days there are a lot of small cars pounding their chests and claiming they get the best gas mileage around. Well, we got tired of the talk and decided to settle the score. Right here, right now! We picked three cars from our long-term fleet known for squeezing extra miles out of every gallo
n of gas: the spunky 2008 Smart Fortwo with a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine, the thrifty 2008 Ford Focus SES coupe with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta TDI, with its legendary 1.9-liter "TDI" diesel engine. Then we added a heavily favored gasoline-electric hybrid to t
he mix: a 2008 Toyota Prius.

Forget all these car I have a 1986 Honda CRX and I manage to get 65mpg in the city and just under 90mpg on the freeway. I don't see why we don't make cars like that...oh wait I know the fucking oil companies own everything so why do they want fuel efficient vehicles.

What about the Prius' carbon footprint of manufacturing?! The cost of battery relacement? They kill the environment if you are trying to save it. Priuses and their loser drivers can go suck it.

Problem is that you Americans don't know how to drive diesels properly. But in Europe I don't even need a diesel. I can buy Renault Clio Grandtour which has bigger boot tha Prius with 1.2L 105 bhp engine which makes the car faster than Prius and it can also get the same mpg as Prius and the best thing about it? It's 1/3, YES ONE THIRD of the price of Prius. Now how about that?

The clio does 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 13.6s The Prius does it in 10.9s Makes the Prius over 2 seconds faster than the Clio, doesnt it? And the mpg thing I am not sure of, depends on driving style and such.

They say Prius does it in 10.9 seconds but it's actually more than 13. Clio does 0-62 in 11 seconds but there's a vid of it here on Ytube doing it in 10.5 And Grantour isn't smaller. Interior is a bit less spacious but the boot is bigger
Sorry there man, ... ( 1 day ago by APikeee)
Sorry there man, but I don't think toyota is lying in their product sheet. That would make them criminals. Old Prius did it in more than 13s, that is true, but they've made some changes since then. Also, the stock renault with stick shift does it in over 13s, (I read the product sheet). Why would they say it's slower than it really is? Just doesn't make sense. French cars also have a bad reputation for breaking down, so buying a renault over a toyota is like buying more trouble.
No bloody owner of ... ( 1 day ago by sspope)
No bloody owner of Prius will ever get 67 mpg from it. That's what Toyota says. So they're criminals according to you. The new Prius was also tested on TopGear and it still couldn't go faster to 60 mph than in 13 seconds. French cars have indeed a bad reputation for slip in the reliability from 2001 to 2006 in some of their models, mostly Megane Laguna and P307. But if you were interested in cars, you'd know that they're improving, drastically.
In fact, the new ... ( 1 day ago by sspope)
In fact, the new Clio is more reliable than Toyota Yaris, it's one of the most reliable vehicles you can buy today. Peugeot 207 and 308 are also very good. And so is the new Citroen C5.
hahaha, there is no ... ( 16 hours ago by APikeee)
hahaha, there is no way I am buying your BS. I am interested in cars and I have seen every episode of top gear, and I can't recall that they tested the prius 0-60.. Also, you can get 67 mpg from it under good conditions, although it is not likely, but it still isn't wrong. I own a Peugeot 407 sw 2.0 '05 and I just ordered a prius to replace it with, believe me, I am glad. The peugeot has been trouble for me since day 1. Always breaking down, never worked properly.
Check ADAC ... ( 14 hours ago by sspope)
Check ADAC reliability reports. New Clio is trouble-free. I also know some happy owners. Peugeot 407 had electrical problems. Dunno wheter they fixed them but I was talking about 308 and 207. JC said that acceleration thing on TopGear when he was testing Prius. You can get 67 mpg out of it, as long as you push it half the route. And there are far better cars that you can for that money. For example new Passat CC, Ford Mondeo, Audi A4. All these cars will get better mpg with diesel units.

I wish Fiat sold in America! My Panda did 82.2 MPG the other day (which is 68 miles per US gallon) I like the way he says "expensive diesel fuel" It can't be dearer than here in the UK at $6 a gallon! which is almost half the price it was a few months back during the fuel shortage! Still, 82 MPG more than makes up for it. Also my car has same emissions as prius, but it's not a stupid hybrid!

Tips to help you create better videos

1. Eye Candy.
Think about some of your favorite videos, ask yourself, what interesting shots and b-roll need to be captured to make your video entertaining to watch.

2. Good Lighting.
The main difference between amateur and professional videos is the quality of the lighting. Poor lighting creates graininess and poor quality videos too. (*Hint* In most studios, the lights and the cameras can be adjusted up and down to get the correct amount of light.) For your home studio make use of fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs produce a nice soft light with no harsh shadows. You can buy fluorescent light kits or you can save a lot of money and make your own fluorescent light box. It is best to use a three point lighting system which is fairly standard in most studios.

3. Tripod.
Use a tripod for shake free shooting. Tripods come in all sizes and quality. Most camcorders used today are only small and weigh very little so there is no need to buy a tripod to suit a heavy professional video camera.

4. Microphone.
The built in microphone on your camcorder is not the best to use if you can avoid it. Buy a directional one that can be mounted on top of your camcorder. Otherwise mount the microphone on a boom or support just out of view of the camcorder but close to the subject. Another option is to use a microphone that clips onto your lapel and as used by newsreaders on television. These are very effective and can be purchased for less than $50. No need to buy a wireless unit, but you need enough cable to run from the camcorder remote microphone, up the inside of your shirt and to your lapel. Bear in mind that you will normally be seated within six feet of the camcorder so the microphone should have plenty of cable.

5. Avoid Zooming and Panning.
Avoid zooming in and out and panning from side to side as much as possible. It is recommended that you set the zoom prior to recording.

6. Pre-Roll and Post-Roll.
Allow a few extra seconds after starting and before stopping the camcorder and the actual start and finish of the action you want to record. This allows for better editing once the shooting is over. Not allowing for the pre-roll and post-roll can make editing difficult. If you are filming yourself then start the camcorder recording with the remote control, wait six seconds before you start talking and at the end let the camcorder run an extra six seconds before stopping. This will give you plenty of time when editing.

7. Remember It is A Small Screen.
When shooting videos to add to your web site, normally the player will be 320 x 240 so avoid wide scenes, keep it close to see the detail. If you are filming yourself talking, you should be within six feet of the camera and preferably from the waist up. Keep the content simple and uncomplicated, do not have much happening in the video and keep it quiet-on-the-set.

8. Think Like a Photographer.
When shooting a video, do it like a photographer taking individual shots. Plan your video shoot, record for a short while from one position then stop recording, reposition the camera or yourself then shoot again. This will reduce excessive camera movement in your video. Using these tips will ensure that you can shoot and produce quality website videos of a better quality than most people. Remember, practice makes perfect and soon you will be getting great results on the first take.

9. Look at the Details.
Sometimes, you are so focused on your subject that you do not notice the surrounding elements of the scene. Only later, when you are reviewing the footage do you notice an unsightly trash can in the background or a tree sticking out of your subjects head. I like to scan the video screen carefully before shooting to make sure there is nothing in the shot that I may have overlooked. You may be surprised what you find!

Use our search feature, at the top of the page, to find videos about your favorite topics. There are tons of videos, for example, type in "Bikini contest", "Body building", "Guitar lesson", or "How to (anything)". Search for "Commercial", you will see cool ads and funny commercials. Notice the video techniques used to capture each video, you may very well find many helpful tips and tricks to use as well as many techniques to avoid when making your own videos... have fun.
