Video Description:
Award-winning Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov (PRISONER OF THE MOUNTAINS) illuminates the life and legend of Genghis Khan in his stunning historical epic, MONGOL. Based on leading scholarly accounts and written by Bodrov and Arif Aliyev, MONGOL delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. MONGOL shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his greatness rested: his relationship with his wife, Borte, his lifelong love and most trusted advisor.
Filmed in the very lands that gave birth to Genghis Khan, MONGOL transports us back to a distant and exotic period in world history; to a nomad's landscape of endless space, climatic extremes and ever-present danger. In a performance of powerful stillness and subtlety, celebrated young Japanes
e actor Asano Tadanobu (ZATOICHI, LAST LIFE IN THE UNIVERSE) captures the inner fire that enabled a hunted boy to become a legendary conqueror. Asano's achievement is matched by those of his co-stars, including the radiant newcomer Khulan Chuluun as Temudgin's courageous, spirited wife Borte, and t
he Chinese actor Honglei Sun (THE ROAD HOME) as the Mongol chieftain Jamukha, Temudgin's dearest friend and deadliest enemy. Masterfully blending action and emotion against some of the most arresting terrain on earth, Bodrov delivers an exciting and awe-inspiring tale of survival and triumph, and
a love story for the ages. MONGOL will be released on Friday, June 6th, 2008. 124 minutes. MPAA Rating -- R. http://www.blacktree.tv

To Romans? The ... ( 5 days ago by SAITOXIII)
To Romans? The Chinese Empire alone was one of the wealthiest, most advanced in technology and owned military supremacy in comparison to Romans. The Mongol conquered that Dynasty. I mean, the Romans feared Attila the Hun to be a powerful enemy, yet, Attila (originally Far East himself) never even dared to enter the Lands of Far East alike. Thus, Romans could have never been as wealthy as Mongols [wealth = power] [power: Mongol > Romans]

That's called fearing the power of Mongols. The Mongols had no mercy on any men who stands in their way. They were disciplined and trained killing machine, that crushed the enemy and made walls out of the dead. They had no fear for they have already endured the harshest environment from the Siberian cold to the Gobi Heat. They were smart, and cunning. They were trained to survive individually. Nothing could stop them. This is Mongol.
Well, the battle ... ( 5 days ago by SAITOXIII)
Well, the battle with Qutuz was commanded by Hulagu's secondary general and Qutuz was SUPPORTED by the Christians of the west. By then, most of Hulagu's army was fighting with the Golden Hordes (Hulagu's brother's Mongol army) who was a bigger threat than Qutuz. Baghdad is the result of insulting the Mongolian Khan, thus no mercy by Hulagu's full army. Qutuz was lucky it wasn't Hulagu himself. Qutuz was a good general none-the-less.

Ultimately no one could defeat the Mongols except the Islamic Caliphate. After the invasion of Baghdad, Gengis Khan's son Hulegu Khan went further west into what is known as Eastern Egypt, there the Mongols were defeated I believe in 1258-60, aand also the Muslims managed to defeat them in what is known as Aghanistan today.
Eventually the ... ( 3 days ago by A2Kaid)
Eventually the Mongols were religously defeated because many of them converted to Islam. Many people say Buddhism is peaceful but at that time Hulegu a devout Buddhist was bloodthirsty rapist and killer, and so was his son.

Hulegu's second ... ( 2 days ago by SAITOXIII)
Hulegu's second commanding general was responsible for the Eastern Egyptian Front. In fact Hulegu was too busy with his main force against Berke Khan (a mongol brethren & a rival) who allied with the Egyptians to fight against Hulegu. Basically Hulegu was defeated by the Egyptians thanks to another Mongol General, as well as Christian aids against a second commanding general. Japan and Vietnam repelled Mongolian invasion as well as Northern India. Not only Islam.
Good point, I think ... ( 2 days ago by A2Kaid)
Good point, I think I should have clarified what I meant, my point is and from what I understand it was the Muslims who were the first to hand the Mongols a major defeat. Also what you left out is, Egypt was apart of the Caliphate were they conducted much of the military training, so the skills of the Egyptian Muslim fighters was also a factor in the Mongol defeat.
Hulegu did not ... ( 2 days ago by SAITOXIII)
Hulegu did not believe in Buddhism, he believed in a popular Shamanism in Mongol called Tengriism (Genghis Khan believed in it too), the divine god of the sky. The Mongolians massacre people who don't pay them respect (like Baghdad) but let people believe in anything and gave positive policy IF they gave in like the Hashashins. People only hate the Mongols because they were powerful and merciless. Just like how Spartans thought the Persians were monsters. The crusades insult allah, mongol didnt.
From my sources, ... ( 2 days ago by SAITOXIII)
From my sources, apparently the Caliphites were trained as well as adopted some of the Mongolian tactics, which led to the Mongolian defeat. So yes, part of the defeat does come from special Caliphite training as you mentioned. The Islam had amazing intelligence network though which the Mongolians lacked. After all, there's a famous quote "information grants you victory". Personally, I'd give more credits to the spies and most notably the famous Arabian Assassins, who changed the battle greatly.

Actually the Roman ... ( 23 hours ago by SAITOXIII)
Actually the Roman Empire was technically abolished by the different Barbarians from the North East. One of them (if I remember) was the Visigoth who pretty much plundered the City Rome and the lot. So technically, the italians are half breeds of Romans and Barbarians and much of the Roman knowledge was turned to dust. This empire was gone from the face of the earth, into mighty legend and myths. Europe enters medieval, replaced by the Barbarian King Charlemagne and many others. It's very sad...
